Envault Corporation, the most innovative provider of high-end, password-free encryption, today announced the appointment of the new CEO Mr. Petri Häyrinen as of 16 April 2012. About Envault Corporation and Customers

Envault Corporation helps enterprises and government agencies to protect their confidential data against leaks. The company was founded in 2007 and is based in Helsinki-Vantaa, Finland. Envault is owned by private investors, VTT the Technical Research Centre of Finland and management. Our customers are high-end expert organizations ranging from military and healthcare to large enterprises handling highly sensitive and/or confidential information.

About Envault Technology

The innovative Envault encryption technology represents the next generation of data protection, as the access control is based on centralized key management instead of end-user passwords. The data protection itself is also fully automatic, which means that end-users do not need to decide whether a document should be protected or not. This way the technology is able to minimize or completely eliminate the possibility of human error. The protection is always in use and data cannot leak to outsiders by accident. Envault also gives the organization the possibility to remotely manage its data. Envaulted documents can be uniquely suspended or deleted, without any connection to the storage device the document resides on. All accesses to organization’s data – who has read or written a file – can also be tracked from audit logs and reports.

Inadequate Password Policies Number 1 security threat according to recent KPMG study

Information Security 2012 (Tietoturvaraportti 2012) report by KPMG lists top-10 threats of the corporate information security. The first item on the list and also the most common deficiency on the Corporations Information Security is Inadequate Password Policies. According to the observations of the study, in typical case the end-user chooses the most simple password allowed by the system. The trend was the same also with the more advanced end-user accounts, such as administrators of the system.

The whole report can be found here (in Finnish).

The report notes that the threat can be easily eliminated by requiring strong enough passwords, and also to chance them on a regular basis. This, of course, results as monitoring and controlling the process, and also for the end-users to put more emphasis on managing their passwords.

The Envault’s product portfolio offers a unique and end-user transparent, password-free way to protect Corporation Data. The end-user nor the Corporation does not have to worry about the passwords; the protection of the data is taken care of automatically and silently on the background with full size technical password. All data within the protected system is always safe.

End-to-end email encryption from Envault

HELSINKI 19 August 2011: Envault announces new end-to-end Email Encryption solution

Running the same zero click user experience

The Envault Email Encryption integrates seamlessly with your MS Outlook 2007/2010 client and allows sending and receiving encrypted emails without any extra clicks. It utilizes the same smart, password-free encryption technology as other solutions in the Envault lineup.

Powerful and versatile: Encrypt full message or just the attachments

Envault gives you the possibility to use the body text as an unencrypted cover letter – or if you want to, you can encrypt the body text as well. Desired security policy can be enforced in MS Active Directory, or you can let the user decide.

Works everywhere and on every device, recipient needs no software

Envault can send the email as a https link to those recipients that do not have Envault software – allowing you to access the secure message on any computer or smartphone.

Control and visibility like never before – and undo button

You can define for how long and how many times the Envault encrypted email can be accessed – and you can see when the recipient has read it – no longer guessing whether your offer or contract has been opened. What’s more – if you accidentally send your message to unintended recipients, you can cancel the message anytime.

Wired: “Dropbox Lied to Users About Data Security, Complaint to FTC Alleges”

According to Wired magazine, Dropbox, the popular online storage system, has “deceived users about the security and encryption of its services, putting it at a competitive advantage, according to an FTC complaint filed Thursday by a prominent security researcher“.

With Envault’s unique encryption technology such security breaches can be easily and effectively eliminated – Envaulted data is stored only in an encrypted and incomplete form in the cloud service, and you can decide who where and when can access the data by controlling the missing pieces of information. (Read more about Envault Cloud Security.)

The Wired article goes on: “The FTC complaint charges Dropbox (.pdf) with telling users that their files were totally encrypted and even Dropbox employees could not see the contents of the file. Ph.D. student Christopher Soghoian published data last month showing that Dropbox could indeed see the contents of files, putting users at risk of government searches, rogue Dropbox employees, and even companies trying to bring mass copyright-infringement suits.

Soghoian, who spent a year working at the FTC, charges that Dropbox “has and continues to make deceptive statements to consumers regarding the extent to which it protects and encrypts therir data,” which amounts to a deceptive trade practice that can be investigated by the FTC.
